Innovation @ UWaterloo – 2010 ECE Design Symposium

The annual UWaterloo Electrical and Computer Engineering Design Symposium took place today at the school’s Davis Centre in Waterloo. Having had my turn at the Design Symposium last year, I was really interested to see what students have come up with this time. I had a chance to look around at the projects and talk with these students and I am really impressed with all they’ve done. There was a ton of innovation on display today.
I had a great time talking with all these bright students. I spent so much time talking to them that I only got around to seeing about 50% of all the booths! It was really interesting to find out how to put their systems together and I learned so much from the short exhibition time.
Read on to see some of the projects.
Convocation Day
We’re done!!! I was looking through the photos that my sister and Jen took today, and I think this is one of the best ones. More pictures and notes to follow shortly.
UPDATE: Check out my UW Convo Flickr album for more pictures.
I’m Hired!
If you haven’t heard the news already, I GOT A JOB!!!
This Thursday, I went to RIM2 to go through a day of interviews with the HW Verification and Modeling team. I basically met and interviewed with members of team, most of whom I had previously worked with during my co-op of Winter 08. It was good to see everyone again and have a chance to talk with them. Although I wasn’t asked many “technical” questions, I’m glad that I spent a good deal of time reviewing my previous work and academic projects so that I could discuss them in detail. The position I interviewed for was a Platform Software Developer on the V&M team. The group is under RIM’s HW Engineering department and is responsible for modeling, bring-up and verification of new silicon to be used in next-generation handset platforms. Hot stuff! My role would involve development of device drivers and various other software to enable the team to run verification tests on the hardware.
At the end of the day, the team manager sat down, turned to me and said, “You’re hired!”. It was an awesome moment!
