iColours.ca has a number of little coloured films that mac users can use to customize the look of the apple logo on a laptop. I thought it would be really cool if I modded my PowerBook’s logo, so I went ahead and ordered the Classic Rainbow film to turn my logo into the Retro Apple. Installation requires popping off the top shell of the computer which houses the LCD, and inserting the film between the screen and the outer Apple logo. This is not a task for the faint hearted. The top shell of my aluminum PowerBook has only two tiny screws at the base. To separate the shell from the screen, I need to use a broad tool to pry and pop the shell off. This is very scary if you are doing it for the first time because you of course don’t want to break the computer (especially not after paying Apples Insanely High prices). I had previously taken off this top shell to tighten the laptop’s hinge, so this wasn’t a problem. 

After installing the rainbow film, closing the screen, and turning on the PowerBook, I decided that I just didn’t like the look of the Retro Apple. So I took it out and closed up. It might have looked better on a white or black macbook, but the rainbow colours against the aluminum of a PowerBook or MacBook Pro just doesn’t look right. Oh well, just a few dollars wasted, but it was good to see how it actually looked.
